Institutional barriers can take many forms, from power imbalances and overlapping responsibilities, to inadequate coordination and misaligned scales (spatial, temporal, institutional). If left unchecked, persistent barriers can undermine marine governance by making it less collaborative, innovative, and resilient.
But change and innovation is possible. A practical first step is to map institutional barriers and enablers, including collaboration dynamics, to understand how they shape governance arrangements in a particular marine context.
In this webinar, together with the BlueGreen Governance project we'll present our mapping approaches and share case study results from three diverse regions: the Baltic Sea, the North Sea (Scheldt estuary), and the Atlantic (Canary Islands).
After listening to our experts (Kåre Nielsen, Ben Boteler, Riku Varjopuro, Cory Fletcher, and Aridane Gonzalez), participants will learn about project-specific findings as well as cross-cutting themes that emerged from the application of different methodological frameworks.
Crucially, attendees will see how PERMAGOV and BGG tools can be used to identify institutional barriers and support more collaborative, coherent, and effective marine governance in their own setting.
