Webinar on how to accelerate offshore wind in Europe

Offshore wind is an important driver of Europe's energy transition towards climate neutrality. With installed capacity of around 20 GW in the EU alone, the continent is home to some of the largest and most advanced offshore wind projects in the world. The EU sector is projected to grow fast as ambitious targets have been set for 2030 (60 GW) and 2050 (300 GW).


However, progress across the region remains uneven. Some places are moving forward decisively, as demonstrated by the leasing of three sites for 4.5 GW of FLOW in the UK's jurisdiction of the Celtic Sea. In other areas, projects have been paused or delayed and only recently saw a sign of progress; case in point is Danish energy islands in the North and Baltic Seas. Even in countries with strong winds and a long coastline (e.g. Norway, Ireland), offshore wind has been remarkably nascent.


This webinar will highlight proposed solutions to governance barriers affecting offshore wind development in the UK, Denmark, Ireland, and Norway. After presenting country-specific examples, cross-cutting themes will be discussed with experts from industry and academia.
