Podcast on Port Actor-Connectivity in Maritime Transport

Achieving EU’s goal of shifting freight to inland waterways and short-sea shipping is critical for reducing road transport emissions and decarbonising the maritime value chain.

However, this transition is hindered by institutional barriers.

Drawing on interviews with North Adriatic port representatives and validation by maritime logistics scholars from Croatia, Italy, and Slovenia, and a workshop with actors from across the whole supply chain, PERMAGOV identified weak actor connectivity as the most pressing governance challenge to address.

In this episode, two distinguished experts discuss different ways of tackling it:

• Nelson Coelho is Associate Professor at Aalborg University. Nelson’s academic domain is the International Law of the Sea, focusing on environmental rules and standards applicable to the maritime transport sector.

• Andreas Kortenhaus is a Project Manager at the European Shippers’ Council, and Professor at Ghent University, with expertise in coastal, harbour, and offshore engineering. Andreas holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Coastal Engineering.
