Energy Islands for Europe's Resilient and Socially Just Energy Transition

Back in 2020, Denmark announced plans for two energy islands in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. These large energy hubs are expected to generate, process and distribute offshore wind energy to Denmark, Germany and other countries, such as the UK. But the projects have faced a number of setbacks that slowed their implementation. In this episode, we discuss the current status, governance challenges, and a way forward for these two energy islands.

• Sun Dyremose is a PostDoc with the Centre for Blue Governance, Aalborg University, Denmark. He has a background in Geography, and focuses on tying together fragmented aspects in complex projects. His PhD focuses on governance structures around Energy Islands development in Denmark.

• Gitte Davidsen is the Sustainability Manager and Head of Project Management at the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, Denmark. She has more than 15 years of experience within sustainability and renewable energy across public, private and research-based contexts. With a background in chemical engineering and biology, she focuses on energy systems, local value creation and practical green transition.

• Daniele Pagani is a Global Business Engineer with a decade of experience within renewable energy, local acceptance and education. Through his work in Folkecenter he contributed to form hundreds of international students on topics related to the green transition, giving them the basic tools for leaving an impact in their countries.
