Since its inception, Smart City Expo World Congress has focused on urban governance, and the way technology facilitates smart and sustainable cities. But for the third year in a row, the conference features a Blue Economy track, not least to remind us that terrestrial and marine environments are interconnected.

From 4-6 November 2026 we learned about many innovative projects in

  • Smart port infrastructure and logistics

  • Blue tech and marine renewable energy

  • Climate adaptation strategies and carbon capture

  • Ocean data and biodiversity governance

Take-away: There is so much innovation in marine governance that the field can truly rival smart cities in terms of the quality, sophistication and impact potential of (e)governance solutions to drive better outcomes.
